Southbourne Surf Life Saving Club secures £50,000 from sporting legacy fund
We are delighted to announce that Southbourne Surf Life Saving Club has secured Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.
This grant will be used to help fund the building of a purpose built training facility on Southbourne Beach. The Club, which has been helping to train local young people and lifeguards for more than 25 years, currently operates from a small wooden hut. The new building will provide separate facilities for training, changing and storage which will vastly improve the Club’s efficiency and help members to continue to their fantastic work; both in competitive sport and within the community. Furthermore, the building will be usable all year round allowing the Club to operate during the winter months.
In addition to the £10,000 the Club members have already raised, this grant of £50,000 from Sport England has taken the Club a leap toward their final goal of £70,000.
Sport England’s Chair, Nick Bitel, said, “A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in Bournemouth.
“With investment now on offer from our Inspired Facilities Fund until 2017, we look forward to supporting many more sports clubs in Dorset who play such a vital role in grassroots sport.
We are putting the building work out to tender, & are hoping to start the work in November 2013 & have it completed for the 2014 summer season.
