Southbourne Surf
Life Saving Club
The members in this section are also known as Nippers.
They are the Life Savers of the future.
It is vital that we encourage our young people to continue in Surf Life Saving to become the volunteers of the future, running community surf life saving clubs.

The Nipper section is for 7 to 12 year olds.
We encourage children as young as 7 to join the club, however they must be able to swim at least 25m.Members cannot compete in Surf Life Saving Competitions until they are 8 years old. As a Nipper your child will be taught surf safety, basic lifesaving skills and surf and beach sports (wading, surf swimming, board-paddling, beach flags, beach sprints and relays). The emphasis is on fun in a friendly environment. During the winter months we also run life saving training sessions in an indoor swimming pool. These sessions are geared towards preparing children for the Stillwater competitions; we help with stroke technique & physical fitness!
During the summer we train on the beach every Thursday between 6:00pm and 7:30pm.
A - Anyone can join with their parents or guardians permission (subject to safety limits).
A - Any Nipper who wants to join in Beach training must be assessed in a pool before they can take part. With our winter pool training you don’t need to be a good swimmer but please contact us before coming to the pool.
A - The first thing you'll learn is that the sea is NEVER safe; we just strive to make it as safe as possible.
A - Yes please!!! For safety reasons we have a limited number of places as we have to keep a low Nipper/Adult ratio. The more adults get involved the more Nippers can take part.
A - As from 2003, all adults in the club must agree to have a criminal record check even if they aren't directly involved with the Nippers.
We are award winning
